The BMW 2 Series has had a recent revamp to its range, with improvements to design and performance as well as to the model names. This week, Auto Express has reviewed the convertible version of the newly named M240i (previously named M235i), to see what the “fastest drop-top in the range” has to offer.

The BMW M240i Convertible is faster than the previous generation with a “3.0-litre twin-scroll turbo six-cylinder engine with 335bhp and 500Nm of torque”, meaning that it accelerates from “0-62mph in just 4.7 seconds with the automatic gearbox fitted, and up to a top speed of 155mph”.

On top of this, efficiency has been significantly improved with “the new model [managing] 38.2mpg with the eight-speed automatic gearbox fitted” which is “2.4mpg better than before” and “£20 cheaper a year to tax than the 235i was”.

The 2017 model has also refined its aesthetics so that “even small things like the simple design of the dials make the car feel like an upmarket product”. This high-quality design is continued into the new infotainment system which simultaneously “looks sharper than before” and performs better thanks to its ease of use, making it “among the best [systems] around” according to Auto Express.

This sporty convertible was launched in July 2016 and is already gaining great reviews from customers and critics alike; Auto Express positions it above competitors, stating that it’s “undoubtedly more fun” than the “lifeless Audi S3 Convertible”.
