“BMW i driverless tech to reach wider range from 2021” by Autocar31/01/2017
Autonomous cars are the future. You can’t look anywhere in the automotive world without being engulfed in the driverless spectacle. With technologies in cars growing faster with each passing day, the Senior Vice President of BMW, Hildegard Wortmann, assured the public that BMW will not be left behind.
When giving an interview to Autocar, Wortmann explained the success of the ‘trickle technique’ that BMW has used so effectively to integrate electric technologies into its extensive range. She stated that “BMW has the largest number of plug-in hybrids on the road," and "You can have a plug-in hybrid from the [2 Series] Active Tourer to the 7 Series, so in every segment we have an offer out on the street today."
With the successful integration of EV technologies into the majority of their range, Wortmann went on to elaborate on autonomous systems, the next focus for BMW’s i brand saying “When we launched the i brand the focus was on EVs. Now it’s on autonomous technology, but after that, the focus will move on.”
